Nigel Mansell on home turf alqays took some beating, and in qualifying for the FORMULA 1 BRISH FRAND PRIX 1992, he destroyed the field. He lapped Silverstomne 1.9 seconds quicker than teammate Riccardo Patrese and 2.7 seconds fast than McLaren's qualifying ace Ayrton Senna in third. By lapping 2.43% quicker than Patrese, Mansell established the biggest margin for pole position in the sport's 72-year history - a record unlikely to ever be beaten.
